Trading foreign exchange, gold and other contracts for difference on margin carries a high level of risk and may not be suitable for you. You can lose some or all of the money in your trading account, and with some brokers and account types more than that. Trade only with money you can afford to lose.
Trading on margin
With leverage, a small deposit controls a much larger position, so a small move in price makes a large difference to your account.
- 1:100leverage: a 1% move against a fully used margin wipes it out
- 100%of the money in your account can be lost
- 24/5markets move while you sleep, and can jump when they reopen
Prices can gap past your stop loss, around news or when the market opens after the weekend, so a loss can be larger than the stop you set.
What an Expert Advisor can and cannot do
It cannot
- Know where prices will go
- Adapt to conditions its rules were not written for
- Remove the risk of trading
It can
- Apply the same rules to every trade
- Place a stop loss and a target on every trade
- Keep to the risk you set
Every Expert Advisor has losing trades and losing periods, some of them long.
Past results
- Back-tests are simulations. They are run on past prices, with the benefit of hindsight. They do not include every cost and condition of live trading (slippage, requotes, changing spreads, outages), and they depend on the data and settings used.
- Simulated results have limits. No trades were actually placed, so they may overstate or understate the effect of real market conditions, such as a lack of liquidity. No account is promised results like those shown.
- Live results, where shown, are those of one account at one broker over one period. Yours will differ with your broker, account type, deposit, settings, timing and execution.
That is true of every result we show, simulated or live.
Technical and execution risks
If it stops, restarts or loses its connection, orders may not be placed, changed or closed.
Orders can be filled at a worse price than expected (slippage), rejected or delayed, especially around news.
MetaTrader, its settings and its updates affect how the software runs.
The licence check also needs an internet connection; if the licence cannot be confirmed, the Expert Advisor stops opening new trades, as our terms explain.
Your broker
Your money is held by your broker, not by us. Choose one that is regulated where you live, and read its terms: whether you are protected against a negative balance, how it fills orders, and what it charges. A broker’s failure or its rules can affect your account.
Prop firm accounts
Prop firms set their own rules, including daily and overall loss limits and restrictions on some trading styles. Breaking a rule can end an evaluation or a funded account, and evaluation fees are not usually returned. Read the rules of your programme before you run any Expert Advisor on it.
Your responsibility
- 1Test it first
On a demo account with the broker you plan to use.
- 2Choose a small risk
The risk per trade is yours to set. Start small.
- 3Watch the account
Especially at the start and around major news.
